Ride 'Em Cowboys

On a cold, rainy Labor Day the boys got their first experience as real cowboys. They both got the chance to ride a sheep at the Francis Frontier Days celebration. Rick took them over to the rodeo arena and got them signed up while I kept calling him every 5 minutes to see if they were really going to do it. From the safety of the food shack (while warming up with some hot chocolate) he assured me they were totally up for it. I quickly dressed Eli and myself in our warmest clothes and got to the arena just in time to snap some pictures of the cowboys. Luke rode great, but still ended up in the dirt! Noah had a little help from his Dad, in the form of a finger through the belt loop, and only ended up riding as long as Rick could keep up with the sheep (which was about 1 second). They both loved it! I was proud of them for getting out in the cold and mud to "cowboy up". They both got little trophies and thought that was so special. The pictures aren't great because they were so far away, but hopefully you can see them. Next year maybe we will go for the steers!

Ha, yes! First to comment...HOW FUN! I always thought that riding the sheep looked so fun, and my favorite was to see the little ones whose dads were running along side holding onto their jeans. Too bad it was a cold day, but a trophy makes it all worth while! I wish I could see those boys. I'm missin them pretty bad... Take care and don't let them get too big while I'm gone.

Yee haw cowboys! I'm proud of both of them. You should see if they can keep up my legacy and try to win a dog, or rabbit or chicken.......

How fun! Kaden would LOVE to do something like that. Even though I love all of the shopping and attractions here in Maryland I have really been missing the slower paced life we had in Laramie. I wish we could have both!

That looks like so much fun! Too bad they don't do that here in Vegas.

That was so fun to watch them! They were REAL cowboys. I also got to see Olivia watch them and she was such a proud mom (and you should be) Next year Eli will be there to!!!!

I don't know if I would let my kids do that. Even after growing up on the farm and doing more risky things than riding a sheep. Or maybe that is why! Either way you got some brave cowboys to ride those sheep. I wish I could have been to the Francis Frontier days it was always my favorite.

With the "daring - live on the edge" McNeil blood cursing through those boys veins, they would have no reservations about riding a sheep! I'm always proud that you are able to let go just a little and allow them to do those kinds of things, Olivia.
Those are the best little boys in the world and I am proud of their bravery! Too bad we won't be able to take pictures of stake conference this weekend and Luke's solo with the choir! That will be a picture worth seeing. Maybe I could take one during the rehearsal! So much to be proud of!
Love, MOM

I kind of wish we would have braved the cold and participated. It looks like tons of fun! I just wasn't in the mood to be cold!

What a little boy's dream to be a cowboy for a day?! It sounds like they had a blast. What would I give to have a day where I needed hot chocolate to keep me warm?! I know it sounds strange, but I really miss the cold and all four seasons.

Liv, by the way, Laura Gines has GREAT pictures of your boys, and you can download them individually. Go visit her blog and click on the little rainbow circle on the bottom right corner of the slide show. It should take you to the link with all those pictures, then you can go through and download the pics you like. Love you!

So, I'm pretty sure Noah has found a new love interest. Tonight at the Baseball game I looked over to find Noah tugging Sienna along trying to get her to follow him. After she refused to let him pull her he dumped rocks on her head... I was just laughing so hard. He is the cutest thing ever. It's so funny how completely opposite your two boys are.
